National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)

NFIP rates are based on averages within very broad flood zones, and the averages are influenced by high losses on a relatively small proportion of policies. ​Many insurers are not equipped to retain the risk of a catastrophic flood and need to re-insure most of the risk. However, this will drive up the cost of their existing reinsurance programs with new catastrophic peril or reduce their capacity to write other perils.

April's Tornadoes Cost Insurers Billions in Claims

In April there were 14 killer tornadoes across the U.S. ​Mainly in the Midwest, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic. Throughout the month of April there were at least 30 tornadoes recorded. As these tornadoes swept through the nation it brought many other disastrous complexities. For instance flash flooding, dangerous hail size, damaging winds, and lighting strikes that caused fires. These events cost billions of dollars in repairs and in rebuilding facilities.

Hurricane Hanna
New York Times Magazine July 20, 2020 ​

Hurricane Hanna went from a tropical storm to a category 1 hurricane on Saturday July 25, 2020​. Hit the southern coastal region of Texas. Last hurricane that hit that area was in 2017 Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Hanna had wind speeds of 90 m.p.h; that ripped off roofs, mangled trees, cause power failure and effected 32 counties.

You or your friend or family does not have to worry about where they are going to sleep that evening.
